JFDA says ‘diabetes food supplement’ reported on TV untested

AMMAN — The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) on Wednesday said it has not approved a food supplement for treating high blood pressure and diabetes that is known as “herbal water”.

The JFDA said not enough studies have been conducted on the safety of the herb.

On Tuesday, Jordan Television reported that a Jordanian obtained a patent for her discovery of the food supplement in question, the JFDA said, noting that this product is neither registered nor licensed, and that it will address concerned official bodies to prevent its entry into the local market until there is sufficient evidence that attests to its safety and effectiveness.
