AMMAN — The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) on Saturday hosted an exhibition titled “Silk of the Jordan Valley” as part of the outcomes of the project aimed at economic and psychological empowerment of Jordanian women.

The exhibition showcased environmentally friendly products made from natural materials. These products were produced by Jordanian women in various governorates and care and rehabilitation centres affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development. The proceeds from the exhibition were dedicated to women’s economic empowerment projects.

During the opening ceremony, Barq Al Dumour, a representative from the ministry, emphasised the significance of the three-day exhibition, which focused on empowering women economically and encouraging them to be self-reliant, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Hussein Al Shibli, JHCO secretary-general, said that the project targets Jordanian women through training and economic empowerment programmes, providing opportunities for skill development, training and employment to enhance women’s economic status.

The project, initiated in 2022, is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development with support from the Ford Foundation. The project targets women in local communities and care and rehabilitation centres, offering psychological support and economic empowerment through activities such as psychodrama, sports, project management and skills development in various areas.

The project is currently operating in several governorates, including Amman, Zarqa, Balqa, Madaba, Irbid, Jerash, Karak, Maan and Aqaba. To date, over 370 women have benefited from the project, and it is expected to provide 50 employment opportunities for women within the programmes by the end of July.
