Jordan condemns Israeli decision to extend high-speed railway to Jerusalem’s Old City

AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday condemned Israel’s decision to extend the high-speed rail service between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem to the Old City in occupied East Jerusalem and set up train stations in the Old City, according to a ministry statement.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Ambassador Dhaifallah Fayez, stated that this unilateral move is a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law and the decisions of the UN and UNESCO.

He stressed that Israel, as an occupying power, must abide by its obligations under international law that considers East Jerusalem as occupied land since 1967.

He added that Israel must not tamper with the city’s nature and identity, and must respect its historical and legal status quo, the statement said. Fayez called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in confronting these illegal Israeli steps.
