Jordan deplores new Israeli settlement plan in East Jerusalem

By JT - Feb 25,2020 - Last updated at Feb 25,2020

AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Tuesday denounced an Israeli announcement to build 3,500 settler units in E1 Zone in the occupied East Jerusalem.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi deplored the announcement, terming the move as a violation of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The foreign minister warned that the “very dangerous” unilateral Israeli measure undermines the scope of the two-state solution according to relevant international legitimacy resolutions, which represents the only means to realise a just and comprehensive peace.

Safadi also warned against the repercussions of the step, stressing the importance of the international community to prevent its implementation, the statement said. The minister also called on the Israeli government to halt building and expanding settlements as per its obligation as an occupying power.
