AMMAN — Head of the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) Fathi Jaghbir on Sunday said that Jordan’s exports to Palestine, including 237 industrial products, have promising opportunities to be increased and diversified, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

According to Jaghbir, the value of Jordanian industrial exports to the Palestinian market during the past eight months amounted to JD82 million, compared with JD63 million for the same period in 2020, reflecting a growth rate of 30.2 per cent.

The Kingdom's exports to Palestine constitute 2.2 per cent of the total national exports, he highlighted. He stressed that the Palestinian market is promising for Jordanian industries due to its geographical proximity and similarity in consumer behaviour.

Jaghbir said that among the most prominent commodities Jordan exports to Palestine are cement and aluminium products, such as barrels, cans, boxes, paints, food products, semi-finished products, iron or natural sand.

Jaghbir stressed that the Palestinian market is “monopolised” by Israeli products, which stand at a value of more than $5 billion annually.

He pointed out that Jordan faces "clear challenges" in enabling economic and commercial relations with the Palestinian side, as a result of Israeli interventions.

Israel accounts for more than 55 per cent of the total volume of Palestine's imports, while the share of Jordanian exports does not exceed 5 per cent, despite the fact that Jordanian products are characterised by high quality at a better price compared with the Israeli products.

Calling for exerting more efforts to bolster trade, Jaghbir praised the current measures undertaken to strengthen both countries' economic relations.
