AMMAN — Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Sunday thanked the UK for its support for the Kingdom to address economic challenges during a meeting with UK Secretary of State for International Development Priti Patel, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Mulki, however, said that the UK's support for Jordan is critical, but the Kingdom, especially this year, needs aid "more than ever" and commitment by donors to enhancing the resilience of its economy to continue providing basic services to citizens and refugees.

Jordan is committed, morally and humanitarianly, to providing necessary services to its residents but at the same time the Kingdom needs to feel that it is not alone in dealing with the Syrian crisis, especially since it is exerting its efforts on behalf of the international community, the prime minister said.

Mulki said that Jordan looks forward to attracting European investments that contribute to the economy, provide jobs and allow the Kingdom to benefit from its deal with the EU to simplify the rules of origin for Jordanian exports to the unions member states.

For her part, Patel commended the Kingdom for hosting Syrian refugees, adding that her country realises the economic challenges facing Jordan. She voiced willingness to help the Kingdom address its economic challenges through supporting its position with relevant international organisations.
