Jordan to participate in Montreal Protocol meeting

By JT - Oct 09,2016 - Last updated at Oct 09,2016

AMMAN — Jordan will participate in the meeting of member states of the Montreal Protocol in Rwanda’s Kigali City on Friday, to discuss means to reduce the uses of hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HFCs), Environment Minister Yaseen Khayyat said on Sunday. HFCs, produced by air conditioners, contribute to global warming.

Khayyat told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that the Kingdom has met several requirements of the Montreal protocol, which deals with substances that deplete the ozone layer.

He added that discussions at the four-day meeting are aimed at inserting proposed amendments to the protocol to avoid the increase of the Earth’s temperature by 0.5ºC, Petra reported.
