Jordan Tourism Board suggests activities for families in Kingdom

AMMAN — The Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) is encouraging families to visit Jordan in its 2016 summer brochure, which recommends activities for tourists of all ages. 

“One of the challenges we face is the complaints we hear from Arab tourists that they do not have much to enjoy in Amman, so we decided to give visitors directions on what to do during their visit to Jordan,” said Tohama Nabulsi, media and communication director at JTB. 

The brochure, titled “Jordan: A family destination”, is distributed in airports and at border crossings, and suggests a wide range of places to visit and events to attend. 

The JTB suggests that tourists share their experiences on social media with the hashtags #love_Jordan or #Share_Your_Jordan. 

The brochure features cultural activities like galleries and concerts, including, for example, a concert by Enrique Iglesias slated for August 11. 

It also notes the many festivals planned this summer, including the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts, the Amman Summer Festival at Al Hussein Park, the Rahbani Summer Night and the Friends of Jordan Festival’s Yanni concert, slated for September 25.

The JTB also recommends sporting activities like riding, driving and shooting, as well as visiting the Kingdom’s shopping malls, cinemas and parks. 

Younger tourists may enjoy visiting the Children’s Museum, Amman Waves, Al Hussein Park, Haya Cultural Centre or Jingo’s Jungle, the tourism board suggests.  

The Children’s Museum Jordan is designed for kids under 14 to develop their innovation and positive curiosity, the brochure says.

Arts and antique lovers may like to visit the Royal Automobile Museum or the Jordan Archaeological Museum, the JTB says, while those looking for moments of relaxation could visit the Dead Sea or Aqaba.

Jordan also offers nature reserves and archaeological sites for tourists seeking discovery and adventure, the brochure says.  

Nabulsi urged proprietors of entertainment venues and destinations not listed in the brochure to contact the JTB to be included in the next edition. 

“This is the first issue of the brochure and we seek to print a second issue within less than a month,” she said.
