AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Thursday welcomed the adoption of the United Nations Human Rights Council's resolution titled "Combating Religious Hatred as Incitement to Discrimination, Hostility, or Violence".

A ministry statement emphasised the crucial need to foster a culture of peace and confront all manifestations of religious hatred, especially the recurring acts of desecration of the Holy Koran, adding that tackling discrimination and rejection of others is a shared responsibility.

This resolution is a product of the urgent debate on religious hatred held in an emergency session of the United Nations Human Rights Council during its 53rd Regular Session in Geneva on Tuesday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi participated in the session and delivered a statement on behalf of the Kingdom, urging the international community to enact legislation that criminalises and prevents the desecration of religious symbols and sacred sites.
