AMMAN — Director of Jordanian Field Hospital “Gaza 56” Maj. Muath Ghazlan on Sunday confirmed that the hospital’s staff have received more than 12,000 patients since its arrival in the Gaza Strip.

Ghazlan explained that the hospital dealt with 18,117 cases, providing medical and healthcare services through its specialised clinics, including the emergency and laboratory departments, operating around the clock.

He added that, on average, around 30 daily surgical operations were performed, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

For his part, Col. Mutaz Ziadat, commander of the Jordanian field hospital in Gaza, said that the number of patients who had benefited from the medical services in the hospital since its arrival reached 2,570,608.

Last Monday, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh thanked Jordan for the assistance it provides to the Palestinians in the besieged coastal enclave.

In a statement, commemorating the 10 years since the establishment of Jordan’s field hospital in Gaza, Haniyeh highlighted the hospital’s humanitarian efforts and Jordan’s assistance to the long-suffering residents of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

Haniyeh, Hamas’ politburo chief, also voiced appreciation for Jordan’s support, His Majesty King Abdullah and the Jordanian people as a whole, Petra, reported.

Gaza has been under Israeli siege since June 2007.

The field hospital was established in 2009, and has since treated over 1.9 million patients, according to Petra.

In the past few years, Jordan has dispatched several military field hospitals to various areas in need, such as Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt and the occupied West Bank to assist in providing healthcare and treatment to local residents.
