AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Judicial Council President Mohammad Ghazou on Thursday attended the launch of the Jordanian Public Prosecution’s first international conference at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre in the Dead Sea region.

Under the theme "Restorative Justice in Contemporary Criminal Policy", the three-day event is held in cooperation with Prince Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS), and features the participation of more than 200 prosecutor generals from Jordan and Arab countries, in addition to a number of Arab and non-Arab restorative justice experts and representatives from global organisations.

Ghazou highlighted the importance of this partnership with NAUSS, describing it as "a beginning of a new phase of the convergence of international visions and experiences in various judicial fields", according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Chief Prosecutor Yousef Thiabat said that restorative justice was chosen as the main topic of the conference in line with the Public Prosecution's keenness to keep abreast of developments and global trends in contemporary criminal policy.

The conference is the fruit of a memorandum of understanding with the Jordanian Public Prosecution to exchange expertise related to restorative justice, NAUSS President Abdelmajeed Albanyan said, noting that the conference will result in significant recommendations in this field.

The conference aims to support the transition from traditional criminal justice to contemporary criminal justice, namely restorative justice, based on reconciliation.
