King meets heads of state, government on sidelines of COP27

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday held meetings with a number of heads of state and government attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) hosted by Egypt in Sharm El Sheikh. 

King Abdullah met with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Iraq President Abdul Latif Rashid, Bahrain Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty also met with Poland President Andrzej Duda, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenkovic, Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Discussions at the meetings, some of which were attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, covered Jordan’s ties with these countries and means to expand them across various sectors.

The meetings also addressed the latest regional and international developments, and the importance of maintaining coordination and cooperation to counter shared challenges.

Discussions touched on the need to reach political solutions to crises in the region, especially the two-state solution to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The importance of addressing the ongoing implications of the Syrian crisis and the needs of refugees, efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach, and the need to cooperate to deal with the ramifications of international crises on food and energy security were also discussed.
