King visits Family and Juvenile Protection Department

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Monday visited the Public Security Directorate’s (PSD) Family and Juvenile Protection Department.

During the visit, in the attendance of PSD Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh and Special Police Commander HRH Prince Rashid, King Abdullah was briefed on the department’s main legal and humanitarian duties, according to a Royal Court statement.

The briefing also covered measures taken to ensure family protection, and to prevent domestic violence and child abuse.

His Majesty was shown the operations room, the measures of receiving abuse reports, and the crime laboratory, which is equipped with the latest technology.

The King commended the department’s work, stressing the importance of developing the legal and social frameworks that curb violence and protect families, in line with Jordanian values.

In addition, His Majesty called for adopting a holistic approach among all concerned institutions to enhance the family protection system and protect vulnerable groups from all forms violence.

For his part, Maj. Gen. Hawatmeh said the Juvenile Department was merged with the Family Protection Department last March, in line with Royal directives to improve the quality and reach of services.

He added that family protection reports are now among the top priorities on the 911 system to ensure a swift response from the nearest PSD units.
