Kingdom's imports from China ‘unaffected’ by coronavirus — ACC

AMMAN — The Kingdom's current imports from China were shipped prior to the coronavirus outbreak, according to the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC).

Member of the chamber's Board of Directors Sultan Allan on Monday highlighted the "smooth" clearance for shipments that arrived in Aqaba port from China, pointing out that problems experienced are attributed to the delay of shipment papers.

The Kingdom's traders and importers have no commercial transactions with the coronavirus-hit Wuhan, which is not an industrial or commercial zone, he added in a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The statement pointed out that during the upcoming two months, the Kingdom's imports from China will not be affected. In order to mitigate import shortage, the Kingdom usually intensifies shipments ahead of the official Chinese holiday.

The Kingdom's import needs from China for the March to May period are normally covered before the official Chinese holiday, Allan said, affirming the availability of stock to meet market demands.

Jordanian importers and traders buy commodities from Chinese coastal cities, namely Quanjo, Ningbo, Shanghai and Yiwu.

Jordan’s imports from China during the first 11 months of 2019 totalled some $2.841 billion, mainly including machinery, electrical appliances, textile materials, chemical products, stone-made commodities, shoes, plant products, wood, transport equipment, optic tools and live animals, among others.
