Lower House deplores Israeli war crimes in Gaza amid int’l silence

AMMAN — The Lower House on Tuesday said that the events unfolding in Gaza constitute a “heinous” war crime committed by Israel in plain view of the world, only met with silence and inaction by the international community.

The House denounced attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land.

The Chamber expressed its support for His Majesty King Abdullah's endeavours to put an end to the aggression on Gaza, safeguard innocent civilians, and provide them with life-saving aid, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported, citing a Lower House statement.

MPs expressed their "great admiration" for the Jordan field hospital personnel, who continue to operate despite the bombing and destruction.

Jordan has repeatedly issued warnings, with His Majesty stating in his speeches, that the absence of a comprehensive and a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution would continue to keep the region in a state of tension and unrest, the statement added.

It indicated that the Israeli occupation went too far with its tyranny, acts of terrorism, abuse and destruction targeting civilians, hospitals, health centres, mosques and schools.

"The equation has come to light as a result of media misrepresentation that equate the criminal as a victim. How else can we describe the killing in Gaza other than terrorism itself and a stark illustration of the extreme right-wing politics of the Israeli government, which continues to disregard all attempts to end the conflict and international legitimate resolutions," the Lower House statement said.

The House affirmed that the main cause for the escalation in the pace of war today is the international community’s denial of Palestinian rights and the condoning of the practices of the occupation.

“The silence of the international community regarding the crimes committed by the occupation is no longer acceptable in any way," the statement said.

The influential and active forces involved in international decision-making are facing a humanitarian and moral challenge, and they must stop dealing with this "abhorrent dichotomy".
