Lower House speaker, AIPU delegation meet with Syria's Assad

AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Ahmed Safadi and a delegation including Arab parliament leaders and representatives from the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) on Sunday visited Damascus to meet with Syrian President Bashar Al Assad and members of the Syrian People's Council.

Assad noted that the visit is significant for Syria, as it demonstrated the effectiveness of Arab institutions that can take action to serve Arab nations. Safadi conveyed greetings from the Jordanian people, and expressed his “delight” in the visit.

The delegation included President of the AIPU, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Mohammed Al Halbousi, Speaker of the Palestinian National Council Rawhi Fattouh, Egyptian Parliament Speaker Hanafi Jabali, and Libya's Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh.
