AMMAN — Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Musa Maaytah on Saturday called for the formation of partisan movements representing the various interests of Jordanian citizens to lead the parliamentary government based on pluralism.

Maaytah made his remarks during an inauguration on Saturday of the EU-funded programme to train young activists and those from political parties, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

“His Majesty King Abdullah’s Discussion Papers are the basis for our development of partisan and parliamentary life,” Maaytah added.

He said that the ministry attaches great importance to the development of relations between young people and political parties because of the importance of youth engagement in partisan life.

He added that the King’s meetings with the parliamentary blocs, political figures and youth have always focused on the importance of the youth’s role and participation in political life. Maaytah highlighted the need for more effective youth participation, especially at the level of partisan leadership and in Parliament.

He added that the programme to encourage young people’s integration into political life was one of the most important government initiatives.

Maaytah noted that social media is an important aspect of youth’s lives and the government is always in favour of listening to criticism, different viewpoints and opinions. However, he said that these platforms had been used to broadcast hate speech, resentment and incitement in a manner that goes against the basic principles of dialogue and democracy.
