AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Thursday charged a 22-year-old man with manslaughter and two counts of attempted murder after a brawl in Ruseifa earlier in the day, officials said.

The suspect, who was not identified by officials, was charged by Criminal Court Prosecutor Sultan Shakhabneh.

The incident, which involved a group of men, started when two of them had a simple argument over an old feud on Wednesday night, a senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.

On Thursday morning, the source said, the suspect was in his car with a friend when he came across the man he had an argument with in another vehicle.

“The situation became tense when the second party blocked his path,” the source said.

“The suspect got out of his vehicle and started arguing with the man and some of his friends, and he was attacked by them. At this point, he pulled a gun and started shooting randomly, injuring three men, including his friend,” the source said, quoting initial confession by the suspect.

The suspect fled on foot and the three men were rushed to hospital “where one of them died shortly after being admitted from gunshot wounds”, according to the judicial source.

When the suspect heard that a man died and his friend was hurt in the incident, a second source told The Jordan Times, he headed to the “nearest police station and turned himself in”.

The suspect was ordered detained for 15 days at a correctional and rehabilitation centre pending further investigation, the second source said.
