AMMAN — One person was killed and four others were injured during a shoot-out in Ramtha at dawn on Saturday, official sources said.
The 40-year-old victim was shot and killed during a fight between members of the same tribe, a senior official source said.
“The incident occurred following an argument between members from the same tribal family that became heated and resulted in the use of live ammunition,” the source explained.
During the exchange of fire, which involved pump-action rifles, machineguns and pistols, four other people were injured, the source added.
Police rounded up several individuals to determine “who was directly involved in the shooting”, the source said.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in Ramtha, 90km north of Amman, but was declared dead on arrival, according to the source.
Pathologist Ali Shotar of the Irbid National Institute of Forensic Medicine performed an autopsy and concluded that the victim died from a bullet wound to the waist, a second source said.
“The bullet penetrated the victim’s vital organs causing his immediate death,” Shotar concluded in his report.
The victim also received another bullet in his arm, the second source added.
