AMMAN — A change in the election law is not political reform if no talks on a new law have been held, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Musa Maaytah said on Wednesday.
Delivering a lecture at the Jordan Media Institute (JMI), Maaytah said that political reform in Jordan was not slow, but had adopted a gradual, safe and agreed-upon approach, according to a JMI statement.
The minister also noted that the government sought to change the support mechanism for parties, to direct support according to parties’ participation, political roles and the number of votes and seats they gain in parliamentary elections.
He called on youth to form their own parties which reflected their aspirations if they believed that existing parties did not meet their needs.
