Ministers, Senate president meet with EU official over ties, Syria

AMMAN — Interior Minister Samir Mubaidin on Wednesday attended a meeting with Rapporteur of the Policy Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Dora Bakoyannis, over the Syrian refugee situation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Mubaidin said that Jordan had presented all that it could afford, while the international community did not provide what is required to help Jordan bear the crisis' burdens and consequences. 

 He added that security and political stability in Jordan, in spite of the economic and geographic challenges, is a result of Jordanians' awareness and rejection of violence and extremism, as well as the efforts of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and security agencies.

Bakoyannis praised Jordanian efforts to support the Syrian refugees by receiving them, highlighting the assembly's support for the Kingdom.

She added that His Majesty King Abdullah had her considerable respect, due to his relentless efforts to sustain security and stability worldwide.

Also on Wednesday, Bakoyannis met with Senate President Faisal Fayez, who praised the high-level of Jordanian-EU relations in different fields. The discussions also addressed enhancing bilateral ties in different fields, the Palestinian issue and the Syrian crisis. 

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi also held a meeting with Bakoyannis during which he stressed the need for intensified efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, one that can safeguard its territorial unity and enhances social cohesion. He added that the solution must be accepted by all Syrians and ensures voluntary return of refugees.
