Miyahuna announces changes to water distribution programme next week

AMMAN — The capital’s water distribution programme will witness changes in some neighbourhoods next week, according to the Jordan Water Company (Miyahuna).

“Miyahuna technical teams will carry out maintenance work on a number of main pipelines that supply the capital on Tuesday. The maintenance work will only take 24 hours,” a company official said on Wednesday.

Water supply to several parts of the capital will be re-scheduled, but households that receive water on Tuesdays in those areas will not miss their turn, the official added.

Shmeisani, Arjan and the Sports City neighbourhoods, which receive their weekly supply on Tuesday, will instead get water between Sunday morning and Monday evening.

Meanwhile, the water distribution programme in other neighbourhoods will be delayed until Wednesday, according to Miyahuna.

The water supply next week will start on Wednesday morning and end on Friday evening in the following areas: Marj Al Hamam, Um Abhara, Oweileh, Al Tarbiyeh Housing area, Al Husseini area, Prince Mohammad Street, Naour, Al Shaheed neighbourhood, Al Ameriyeh, Um Al Quttain, Al Salam Street, Al Muqabalein, Dahiyet Yasmin, Omeish, Bader area, and the housing area near the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation.

Abu Mohammad, a resident of Arjan, one of the neighbourhoods that will witness a change in the water distribution programme, commended Miyahuna’s announcement of the change.

“I wait for Tuesdays to fill my two eight-metre wells... without the announcement, I would have missed my turn to receive water and would have had to wait until the next week,” he said.

Abu Mohammad added that the water distribution programme is consistent most of the time, noting that water supply to his property starts early on Tuesday and continue until late on Wednesday.

“It takes me less than a day to fill my wells now because the water pressure has improved and become stronger compared to this time last year,” he told The Jordan Times.

Under the water distribution programme, households receive water once during a certain period, usually a week in Amman, on a rotating basis.

Scarce water resources in the country compelled the Kingdom to initiate the programme in the early 1980s to conserve limited resources whilst ensuring a sustainable supply of water.
