AMMAN — Temperatures during the first third of the fasting month of Ramadan are expected to be around the average for this time of the year, according to Arabiaweather.com Chief Weather Forecaster Omar Dajani.

"Unlike the past week, the weather during the first 10 days of Ramadan is forecast to be moderate during the day and pleasant to relatively cold at night," Dajani told The Jordan Times on Sunday.

The Kingdom will be affected starting Monday by a moderate air mass which will bring temperatures back to around their annual average of 30ºC for this time of the year, after hitting their upper thirties between Friday and Sunday, when a hot air mass prevailed.

During the coming 10 days, maximum temperatures in Amman will range between 25ºC to 29ºC, while minimum temperatures will range between 14ºC to 19ºC, according to Arabiaweather.com.

Dajani highlighted that the summer solstice will fall during the fasting month on June 21, after which days will become longer and nights shorter.

In Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset.

This year, Muslims in Jordan are expected to fast for around 16 hours.

"Although the weather in general will be moderate during Ramadan, the fasting hours will be long; therefore, people are urged to drink plenty of fluids after they break their fast," Dajani noted.

To avoid dehydration, which can create problems like kidney stones and cramps, those fasting should make sure they drink enough water and liquids after they break their fast. This includes six-to-eight glasses of water, according to experts.

Fasting people are also urged to avoid salty foods and caffeinated drinks like coffee and tea, which could contribute to dehydration.
