AMMAN — Representatives of municipalities and civil society from across the region concluded workshops in Amman on Wednesday to share their experiences hosting refugees, the World Bank said.
Organised by international organisations and UN agencies, the event brought together representatives from across the region to share innovative solutions to ensure the welfare of refugees and their hosts.
The World Bank noted in a statement that the tendency of refugees to flee to cities posed a number of challenges to municipalities and placed “a great strain on host communities”.
Workshops focused on the need for coordination in facing challenges like employment, providing services and ensuring social cohesion in host communities.
