AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma, chairperson of the Jordanian National Forum for Women (JNFW), on Saturday drew attention to the importance of the forum as a feminist incubator for Jordanian women, and its role as a source of political and democratic empowerment for women.

During a meeting at the Queen Zein Al Sharaf Institute for Development, Princess Basma called on members of the forum’s higher council to avail of the legislative and political environment in the Kingdom to enhance women’s political participation and their participation in the electoral process, primarily in parliamentary, municipal and local councils, and partisan work in general.

The princess regarded the plans of women’s political empowerment a “great and appropriate” opportunity for Jordanian women to increase their participation in decision-making positions, emphasising the importance of the JNFW higher council role in building on national plans and converting them into action programmes at the council and governorate levels.

The princess also stressed the need for enhancing cooperation between the members of the forum and its higher council, in accordance with a participatory approach, to serve the legitimate aspirations of Jordanian women.

During the meeting, the princess was briefed on the higher council’s plans and programmes set for the next period, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
