Petra site undergoes rehabilitation

AMMAN — The rose-red city of Petra will witness improvements and rehabilitation work in various sites and trails, Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) announced on Tuesday.
Commissioner of Petra Archeology Park and Tourism Ismail Abu Amoud said that rehabilitation works seek to reduce flashflood risks, highlighting the authority's efforts to preserve the city's archaeological and cultural heritage, according to a PDTRA statement.
He added that the PDTRA has recently finished cleaning the canals in the Siq (the natural gorge leading to the ancient site), in addition to rehabilitating its dams.
Ibrahim Farajat, director of Heritage Resources, said that the PDTRA in cooperation with the UNESCO has finished the first phase of rehabilitating the trails in Baida area.
