PM distributes awards to honour creativity, science

AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh on Tuesday attended a ceremony to distribute the 2021 State Appreciation and Encouragement Award-the Jordanian State Centennial edition.

Khasawneh distributed awards to the winners during the ceremony held by the Culture Ministry at the National Library Department, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Rashed Issa, Mohammed Jamal Amr and Taghrid Najjar won the award in the field of literature and children’s literature.

Hind Abu Al Shaar won the award in the social and humanitarian sciences field and Jordan modern and contemporary history, while Omar Abdullat won the award for the arts and singing fields.

Mohammed Nimer of the Jordan University for Science and Technology, and Petra Engineering Industries Company won the award in the applied sciences field and mechanical engineering.

Siwar Sbeihi and Hisham Miqdadi won the encouragement award in the literature field and short story section.

Culture Minister Haifa Najjar expressed pride in His Majesty’s support for the cultural and innovation in the Kingdom and for his directives in various Letters of Designation to successive governments to “unleash creative energies and support creativity”. 

She added that granting the awards this year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic and its accompanying difficult circumstances, stresses the importance of culture by honouring scientists and creativity.

Issa delivered a speech on behalf of the winners, stressing that this Royal gesture of honouring creativity and science highlights the “bright civil vision” in synchronisation with the Kingdom’s celebrations of the first centennial of the Jordanian state.
