AMMAN — Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Wednesday met with Director General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Qu Dongyu. The meeting covered the productive cooperation between Jordan and FAO, particularly the latter’s involvement in joint projects to address food and water security challenges and climate change, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Khasawneh expressed appreciation for the support that FAO has provided to Jordan, most notably for the National Food Security Strategy and its executive plan, which was launched last August. Highlighting Jordan's experience in securing strategic stocks of food staples, including wheat and barley, he noted that the Kingdom's stock is one of the largest in the region and worldwide.

This, he said, helped reduce the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. Dongyu commended the Kingdom's efforts in the fields of food security and climate change in line with the government's priorities.
