AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh on Sunday met with Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker Al Markabi and stressed the “deep-rooted and distinguished” Jordanian-Egyptian ties at all levels thanks to the support of His Majesty King Abdullah and Egyptial President Abdel Fatteh Al Sissi.

Khasawneh also said that Egypt’s leadership, government, people and institutions have a “special status” for His Majesty and the Jordanian people, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The prime minister also referred to “the full match of the stances of Jordan and Egypt” on various Arab, regional and international issues and towards realising the aspirations of the two peoples, noting that the Kingdom is keen on developing cooperation with Egypt in all fields.

He also praised the outcomes of the discussions that both sides held earlier in the day in Amman and their agreement to increase the electrical capacity between the countries from 500 megawatts to 1,000 megawatts in the future.

Khasawneh listened to a briefing by Energy Minister Saleh Kharabsheh and Markabi on the plans to expand electric connection between Jordan and Egypt, means to develop the electricity sector and prospects to open new markets to import and export electric power, in a way that enables both countries to exchange power with regional and European countries.
