PM opens new freight centre on border with Saudi Arabia

AMMAN — Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Tuesday inaugurated the new freight section at the Omari Border Crossing.
Ensour underlined the importance of the crossing, which connects Jordan to Saudi Arabia.
Every year, around 2 million passengers pass through the border crossing, which can accommodate 1,500 trucks a day, the premier noted.
The new section is expected to further facilitate the movement of shipments between Saudi Arabia, other Gulf countries and Jordan, according to Public Works Minister Sami Halaseh.
Set up at a cost of JD30 million and supported by Saudi Arabia, the project included the construction of roads and customs yards on an area of one million square metres.
