Prime minister meets with head of USAID over future cooperation

AMMAN — Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Thursday received Mark Green, head of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, attended by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mary Kawar, US Chargé d’Affaires in Amman Karen Sasahara and Director of USAID in Jordan Jim Barnhart, the premier drew attention to the Jordanian-US partnership and USAID’s role in serving Jordanian society.

The world and region alike are witnessing rapid changes, which necessitate plans to consider these alterations, Razzaz said.

Razzaz added that the government has put forward plans to create job opportunities for young people in partnership with the private sector and has taken into account the changing mentality of young jobseekers.

He also highlighted several fields in which the private sector and USAID could co-implement projects, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

USAID sees Jordan as a “true partner” with whom the agency has implemented and is still executing many programmes, related to both Syrian refugees and host communities, Green said, lauding the Kingdom’s efforts in this regard.

Green also expressed USAID’s pledge for continued support the Kingdom in light of the difficult economic conditions, and to cement the two countries’ alliance in spreading the spirit of tolerance and countering hate speech.
