Prince Feisal presents Generations For Peace Awards for innovative programmes

AMMAN — Generations For Peace (GFP) founder and Chairman HRH Prince Feisal recently presented the eighth annual Samsung Generations For Peace Awards at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre at the Dead Sea.

The awards recognise achievements of GFP volunteers leading peacebuilding programmes in their own communities around the world, according to a statement sent from the organisation.

During the ceremony, Prince Feisal was also accompanied by Mohannad Nabulsi of Samsung Electronics Levant, which is a partner of GFP.

In an address during the ceremony, Prince Feisal said: “The world is beginning to recognise what we at Generations For Peace first realised when I founded it as a peace-through-sport organisation 11 years ago: Youth are not only a pivotal component of building peace, but are essential in passing it on — in making it lasting, sustainable and meaningful in their communities.”

“Your work — your dedication to your homes and communities, to your fellow volunteers, and to Generations For Peace — is what makes this possible,” the Prince added

He also expressed his gratitude to Samsung for their partnership with GFP.

According to the statement, the awards aim to recognise a programme’s success in innovation, quality, impact and sustainability. 

The Innovation Award was presented to volunteers from Nigeria for “Youth Advocacy for Inter-Religious and Inter-Ethnic Integration”, an Advocacy For Peace programme, according to the statement. The Quality Award was presented to volunteers from Jordan for “Social Cohesion in Host Communities”, a Sport and Arts For Peace programme. The Impact Award was presented to volunteers from Sri Lanka for “Religions to Reconcile”, a Sport and Arts For Peace programme and the Sustainability Award was presented to volunteers from Lebanon for “Engaging Youth for Human Rights and Social Cohesion”, a Sport and Arts For Peace programme.

The awards ceremony marked the conclusion of the 2018 Generations For Peace Samsung Advanced Training, which gave volunteers a unique opportunity to engage in both vertical and horizontal learning. 

They took part in sessions and workshops led by facilitators, while exchanging knowledge with fellow youth-led, community-oriented, grassroots change-makers. This year’s training brought together 35 volunteers from nine countries — Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Uganda and Yemen, the statement said.
