AMMAN — The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF Jordan) has launched a project titled “HurreiyatCom”, meaning Freedom.Com.

The project aims to raise the awareness of Jordanian youth on individual freedom principles, in addition to providing young people with inclusive platforms to express their opinions on different topics, according to a statement from the foundation.

The goal behind “HurreiyatCom” is to create different formats of online and offline content in the Arabic language, as well as the local dialect, initiating discussions that tackle diverse topics to mainly find solutions for society in general, and the youth in particular, the statement said.

The pilot project will discuss the topics of freedom of expression and opinion, disinformation, women’s political participation and the rule of law.

The content will be provided in the forms of discussion videos and vox pop video on social media channels, podcasts, and community discussions with youth in Amman and Irbid.

This project comes as a partnership between “Shezomedia platform” and the Naumann Foundation.

Moreover, Sowt, the Jordanian podcasting platform, will work on the production of the audio content.

Regarding the community discussions, Shams Community, a Jordanian group facilitating discussions among youth, will partner to create and organise the session hoping to enhance the culture of dialogue and group learning experiences.

“We are a civic education organisation, we provide, especially the young community, with knowledge and understanding of their rights and responsibilities aiming to build inclusive societies that supports dialogue, diversity and tolerance,” said Hend Shaheen, the project coordinator for Jordan and Egypt at the Naumann Foundation.

“The is a pilot step to throw important topics in the public space, include youth in discussions to express their opinions in safe spaces. In 2021, we will develop the project in a more interactive manner that guarantees a more effective and influencing participation of youth groups,” Shaheen noted in the statement.
