PSD, US INL sign cooperation agreement

Director of Public Security Directorate (PSD) Maj. Gen. Obaidullah Maaytah, and US Ambassador to Jordan, Henry Wooster, sign a cooperation agreement on Thursday

AMMAN — Director of Public Security Directorate (PSD) Maj. Gen. Obaidullah Maaytah, representing Jordanian government, and US Ambassador to Jordan, Henry Wooster, on Thursday signed a cooperation agreement between PSD and US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).

The agreement comes to frame the existing cooperation between the two sides to support fight against drugs and crime and enhance capabilities for combating and preventing these phenomena, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Maaytah lauded "deep-rooted, strategic" partnership between the two countries' security apparatuses, which aims to enhance security and peace and face common challenges in the context of combating crime.

He also highlighted importance of international cooperation in the field of combating scourge of drugs, which is a cross-border crime, pointing out that the agreement would contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries and benefiting from modern police technologies and sciences in this field.

Wooster said the new INL-PSD cooperation will help Jordan combat drug smuggling, achieve justice for crime victims, and support police forces operating across the Kingdom.
