AMMAN — The Amman Court of First Instance on Thursday convicted the director-general of a public hospital of wasting public money and imposed and fine of JD1 million.
Additionally, the court convicted a second person in the same caser for not disclosing information indicating his relationship with a company that supplies equipment to the hospital and imposed a fine of JD500.
The court acquitted a third person, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The decision is subject to appeal.
According to court papers, the hospital was receiving patients from an Arab country that was experiencing unrest and violence.
The board of directors had assigned the now-convicted director to manage the hospital's funds, with the condition that he does not exceed the medical bill amount, ranging between JD3-JD4 million.
The director had informed the board that the bill did not exceed the amount they had set. However, the board discovered that the amount had exceeded JD4 million to JD13 million, and the debt of the hospital had reached JD22 million, with only JD1.7 million collected.
