Refugee influx ‘key challenge to children’s welfare’

AMMAN — Jordan has been ranked 51st out of 175 countries in the index of children’s vulnerability, which measures poor health, malnutrition, denial of education, child labour, marriage, early pregnancy and severe violence against children, according to Save the Children report.

The report pointed out that among the mounting challenges facing Jordan is the existence of about 145,000 Syrian students in public schools in the Kingdom. The influx of refugees, the report said, has expanded the magnitude of the challenges to the education sector in Jordan, despite the government’s efforts to overcome these difficulties and mitigate their impact, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

According to the report, published by Save the Children organisation on Saturday, Jordan has maintained the same ranking as in the previous year.
