AMMAN — Renewable energy sources, both wind and solar, currently form about 30 per cent of the Kingdom’s total energy mix, National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) Director Amjad Rawashdeh said on Tuesday.

Opening a workshop titled “Technologies of smart grids and their role in solving problems facing modern electricity systems,” Rawashdeh said that Jordan is known for using smart grid applications, whether on transport or distribution grids, which contribute to preserving the stability of the electric system and ensuring safe and uninterrupted provision for all subscribers, according to a NEPCO statement.

Rawashdeh, who is also chairman of Jordan CIGRE National Association, said that the Kingdom’s electric system has also adopted advanced control and communication systems, smart gauges and automated transfer stations.
