AMMAN — Restaurants and pastry shops have started to recover from the coronavirus crisis following the government’s recent decision to allow these businesses to reopen and operate through direct selling and extend delivery hours during Ramadan, Food Sector Representative at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce Raed Hamada said on Wednesday.
In a statement, Hamada said that allowing the sector to reopen after more than 40 days of closure “greatly supports its resilience”, especially for small businesses in which most of the employees depend on daily wages, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He added that, amid the growing developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, economic recovery requires reopening all sectors and reducing economic burdens through the low-interest financing programmes launched by the Central Bank of Jordan.
Hamada stressed the sector’s employees’ “full compliance” to the government’s health regulations aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
There are about 18,000 restaurants and pastry shops in the Kingdom that employ nearly 100,000 workers, Petra reported.
