RFC, Flemish communities sign audio-visual production agreement

AMMAN — The Royal Film Commission of Jordan (RFC), in the presence of HRH Prince Ali, chairman of RFC’s board, signed an audio-visual production agreement with the Flemish communities, the linguistic regions in Belgium and the Dutch-speaking and bilingual regions in Brussels.

Minister of Culture Ali Al Ayed, who signed the agreement with the secretary general of the Department of Culture, Youth and Information in the Flemish government, Luc Delrue, said that the importance of cinema and documentary film is increasing, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

He added that as Jordan celebrates its centenary, the Kingdom’s achievements can be recorded and its history restored through film, which will contribute to enriching the Jordanian historical content and narrative.

Within the national plan to celebrate the Kingdom’s centenary, the ministry has produced dozens of short films and documentaries showcasing the history of Jordan.

The minister stressed that the cinema sector in Jordan, which was established in the mid-1950s, is a promising sector, and that there are many creators and technicians who have contributed to the its development and made it an important mechanism to stimulate economic growth and introduce the Kingdom’s aesthetics, especially given that Jordan witnessed the filming of dozens of international films in Wadi Rum, Petra, Jerash and Amman.

Ayed said that this agreement aims to develop joint production in the cinematic field and to highlight the Jordanian geography, society and cultural diversity.

The agreement will also increase cultural exchange through the free flow of ideas and provide opportunities to gain film experience, the minister indicated, underlining that the productions will be available in both Arabic and Dutch.
