AMMAN — Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, head of the follow-up committee for the implementation of Royal Initiatives, on Saturday sponsored the launch of a Royal Initiative that aims at empowering underprivileged families in the Badia areas.

The initiative aims at helping underprivileged and low-income families to improve their living conditions through supporting them to set up productive projects, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the launch ceremony at the Royal Hashemite Court, the Jordan River Foundation (JRF) and 29 charity organisations, in the northern, central and southern Badia regions, signed a number of agreements to reach out to impoverished families through the initiative.

The initiative’s first phase targets 200 families in the Badia’s different regions through funding income-generating projects and providing training for beneficiaries to ensure success and sustainability.

Bettering Jordanians living conditions tops His Majesty King Abdullah’s priorities, Issawi said, noting that the Royal Initiatives are complementary to the government’s plans and programmes in all sectors, which improves citizens’ living standards and quality of life.

Minister of Social Development Basma Ishaqat said that this initiative highlights the importance of the programmes intended to empowering low-income families expressing the ministry’s commitment to provide support and facilitate the work of active charitable institutions, Petra added.

The JRF is tasked with implementing the initiative to execute His Majesty’s directives, aimed at driving development and empowering local societies in different Badia regions, JRF Director General Enaam Barrishi said.

To provide assistance to those in financial need, the Royal Initiative, implemented under the JRF’s overall supervision, will grant beneficiaries equipments and all other project requirements rather than cash-in lieu, Petra added.
