AMMAN — A Royal Decree was issued on Tuesday approving a government reshuffle of two portfolios, the Royal Court announced in a statement.

Yousef Shawarbeh

Mazen Qadi

Mazen Qadi and Yousef Shawarbeh took the oath of office before His Majesty King Abdullah later in the day, the first as interior minister, and the second as political and parliamentary affairs minister, respectively, replacing Salamah Hammad and Khaled Kalaldeh.

Another Royal Decree was issued on Tuesday accepting the resignation of Hammad as of April 19. The outgoing minister came to office in May last year in a government reshuffle, replacing Hussein Majali.

Kalaldeh resigned on April 6 and was appointed by a Royal Decree as president of the Independent Elections Commission on the same day.

Qadi served as director of the Public Security Department from 2007 to 2010. He was elected a member of the 16th Parliament (2010-2013).

Shawarbeh, who was born in Amman on August 9, 1968, holds a PhD degree in the constitutional law. He was Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) deputy mayor between 2013 and 2016 and a member of GAM council since September 2013.
