AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and representatives and regional directors of specialised agencies and UN funds in the Kingdom on Thursday discussed means to enhance “solid existing” cooperation and partnership between Jordan and various UN agencies.

During the meeting, participants agreed to form an action team of the Foreign Ministry and UN agency representatives to set action priorities for the next stage and agree on steps necessary to enhance the Jordan-UN partnership, in addition to addressing any challenges that might arise, provided that the team finishes such procedures within a month.

Safadi commended the main role of the UN and its agencies in Jordan in enhancing development, building capacities and meeting refugees’ needs, according to a ministry statement.

UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Andreas Pedersen praised the Kingdom’s efforts in hosting Syrian refugees and the “deep-rooted” relations between the Kingdom and UN agencies in Jordan.

He also expressed the appreciation of UN agencies and offices in Jordan for the government’s efforts in facilitating their work, stressing the UN’s keenness to support the government.
