AMMAN — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi stressed on Sunday the need for concerted efforts by the countries of the region and the international community to end the Syrian crisis through a political solution.

Such a solution, he said, should preserve the unity and cohesion of Syria and restore its security and stability, one that the Syrian people accepts, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Safadi made his remarks during a telephone call with UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura.

Safadi added that Jordan is committed to working with the United States and Russia to maintain the ceasefire agreement in southern Syria as a springboard towards a comprehensive ceasefire in Syria and towards an inclusive political solution to the crisis.

Safadi explained to Mistura the type of communication the Kingdom is currently having with Washington and Moscow to ensure that the fighting does not erupt in southern Syria and to maintain the de-escalation agreement.

De Mistura said that the UN, during its meetings with concerned parties in Geneva over the coming days, will seek to reinvigorate the process related to the Syria crisis in order to put an end to the conflict there.
