Safadi, South Korean counterpart talk ties, region over phone

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday met with South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin to discuss the latest international and regional developments as well as issues of common interest.

During a phone call, both ministers expressed their mutual keenness to continue enhancing bilateral ties and cooperation in various fields. Jordan and South Korea are celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Talks also covered recent regional developments and efforts to resolve regional crises, with the South Korean foreign minister stressing his country's support for the Kingdom's unceasing efforts to achieve a fair and comprehensive regional peace and instil regional stability.  

In terms of the situation on the Korean Peninsula, Safadi stressed Jordan's support for South Korea's efforts to achieve peace and stability. 

Safadi and his Korean counterpart affirmed that Jordanian-South Korean relations are "solid" and based on cooperation, noting that the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties serves as a platform to increase collaboration in various economic, development and political endeavors. 

They also discussed existing cooperation in terms of water, along with other Korean development projects in Jordan. 

Highlighting the Kingdom's role as a refugee host country, Jin expressed appreciation for the Kingdom's efforts to maintain regional security and stability. 

Safadi also congratulated his Korean counterpart on assuming office as foreign minister.

The pair agreed to continue joint action and coordination to serve the interests of both countries. 

Over the phone, Safadi extended the Kingdom's condolences over the victims of Typhoon Hinnamnor, which hit the southern part of the Republic of Korea on Tuesday morning, resulting in a number of deaths and injuries. Safadi wished the injured a speedy recovery.
