AMMAN —  Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi conducted a phone call on Wednesday with Minister of Foreign Affairs and the European Union and Spanish Cooperation Jose Manuel Albares, discussing efforts to halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

Safadi appreciated Spain's decision to recognise the Palestinian state in July, emphasising that genuine peace and security cannot be achieved without the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with its capital in occupied Jerusalem, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He and his Spanish counterpart expressed their concern over the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Gaza due to Israel’s ongoing blockade of aid entry and the hindrance of international relief organisations from providing assistance to the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Safadi also underscored that Israel, as the occupying power, bears the full legal and moral responsibility for the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and condemned Israel’s targeting of relief workers and United Nations personnel, including those from UNRWA and World Central Kitchen, noting that the number of casualties among humanitarian and relief workers due to Israeli war has reached 196.

Safadi also said that Israel’s killing of 7 employees of the World Central Kitchen organisation constitutes a new war crime among the many committed by Israel in Gaza, which has claimed the lives of thousands of innocent people.

Also on Wednesday made a phone call with Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaya Mohsin Zindani, congratulating him on his appointment as foreign minister and wishing him success in serving Yemen’s interests.

The two ministers discussed the bilateral relations between Jordan and Yemen and the ongoing efforts to resolve the Yemeni crisis, ensure Yemen’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity, and fulfil the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security, peace, and prosperity, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.

Safadi reiterated his keenness to work with his Yemeni counterpart to enhance bilateral relations and support efforts aimed at resolving the Yemeni crisis.
