By Petra - Dec 11,2014 - Last updated at Dec 11,2014

AMMAN — The Senate on Thursday endorsed a code of conduct for its members, aiming primarily at instilling values of transparency, fairness and impartiality.

Under the code, senators are not allowed to enter any contractual relationship with any party should it limit their independence.

Senators are also required to inform the House's presidency about the invitations they receive to participate in events outside the country under the code, which also prohibits smoking either under the Dome or during committee meetings.

The document also obligates senators to inform the Senate president about any gifts worth more than JD500 that they receive.
