AMMAN — A Senegalese delegation, headed by Minister of Petroleum and Energy Mouhamadou Makhtar Cisse, is currently visiting the Kingdom to take a first-hand look at the Jordanian experience in using the liquefied natural gas (LNG) and its economic importance.

During a meeting with Cisse and an accompanying delegation on Monday, Energy Minister Hala Zawati expressed the Kingdom’s readiness to transfer its expertise and experiments in the energy field, mainly in LNG, to Senegal, a ministry statement said.

The meeting focused on the means to benefit from each country’s expertise in the fields of renewable energy and oil and gas exploration, especially in light of new explorations in Senegal and the Kingdom’s experience in importing LNG.

Also on Monday, Pope Demba Bitteye, director general of Senegal's national electricity company, said that his country seeks to benefit from the National Electric Power Company’s (NEPCO) expertise in the use of LNG for generating electricity, with a focus on infrastructure and attracting offers.

During a visit to NEPCO, Bitteye said that Senegal is witnessing a transition towards the use of natural gas instead of heavy fuel and seeks to rely mainly on liquefied gas.

The visit to NEPCO aims at benefitting from the company’s expertise in negotiating prices and preparing the infrastructure necessary for projects of importing liquefied gas and using it for generating electric power.

NEPCO CEO Amjad Rawashdeh said that the delegation was scheduled to spend the day with company personnel in various locations to check on NEPCO's performance.

NEPCO officials also reviewed the Kingdom’s experiment in establishing the LNG port in Aqaba since the early stages of planning for the scheme until it reached implementation, operation and maintenance stages.
