Sheep, goat population stood at 3.88m head in 2021

AMMAN — Jordan’s sheep and goat population increased by 3 per cent in 2021 to a total of 3.889 million, compared with 3.765 million in 2020, according to official figures cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Sheep and goat births during the same year increased by 4.4 per cent to 2.5 million, compared with 2.394 million in 2020, the Department of Statistics said on Wednesday, citing data from a regular livestock census.
According to the data, there were 3.085 million sheep and 804,000 goats in the Kingdom in 2021.
About 1.252 million sheep and goats were slaughtered in 2021 for human consumption, indicating an increase of 10 per cent year on year.
