Solar power plant opened in Madunah

AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah Royal Court Secretary General Yousef Issawi, head of the follow-up committee for the implementation of Royal initiatives, on Thursday opened the second phase of a solar power plant in Al Madunah, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The project is the largest connected to the electricity grid network using the power traction system.
Issawi said that the project is a “national achievement which reflects the determination of Jordanians for development”. The opening of the first phase of the project was in 2015 with a production capacity of 5.6 megawatts, he noted.
The project, under Royal directives, was carried out with the aim of meeting the energy needs of national institutions. With the implementation of the second phase with a capacity of 12 megawatts, project achieves a “quantum leap” in the field of renewable energy, he added.
Issawi explained that the project will cover the electricity needs of the Royal Hashemite Court, the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management, in addition to 21 governmental and care centres.
Social Development Minister Hala Lattouf praised the Royal initiative for including governmental and care centres for the elderly, people with disabilities and orphanages in the project.
Director of the Royal Engineering Administration at the Royal Court Awwad Hijazi said the project was carried out under the supervision of the administration in cooperation with Spectrum Company.
The project was completed in a “record period” of six months on a 250- dunum plot adapting the latest technology standards, he added.
