AMMAN — The Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD) on Thursday urged taxpayers to submit income tax returns and to refrain from surpassing the legally specified deadline, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The department called on taxpayers to provide accurate information about their income during 2022, and pay the amounts declared electronically on or before April 30, which is the last legal deadline for tax filing.  The submission of all financial declarations is to be completed electronically through the ISTD’s website, according to the department.

Taxpayers are obligated to submit their income tax returns if their annual income exceeds JD9,000 for non-sponsors and JD18,000 for sponsors, composed of any source of income, including salaries and wages.

The department requested that taxpayers attach information regarding their economic activities over the past year with their tax returns, and to submit all documents before the legal deadline to avoid fines. Fines include VAT for failing to submit tax returns, as well as a penalty of 0.4 per cent of the value of the due tax amounts for every week of delay.

Regarding employees who receive monthly salaries and wages, the department confirmed that they are obligated to submit income tax returns if their total annual income exceeds JD9,000 for non-sponsors and JD18,000 for sponsors.

The income tax deduction from monthly salaries and wages by the employer does not exempt those whose annual income exceeds the exemption limit from submitting income tax returns annually, according to the ISTD.

Retirees who receive monthly retirement salaries above JD2,500 are also urged to submit income tax returns for the fiscal year 2022.

The department warned that failure to submit income tax returns by the legal deadline ending on April 30 will result in a fine ranging from JD100 to JD500, in addition to an administrative assessment.
